Luxury Yacht Spotting: Pelorus Yacht
Is it just the season, or has Ultra had an impact? Whatever the case, it has been a week for luxury yacht spotting along the Croatian Coast. The recent beauty, spotted by Split’s own ‘3 Gray Goats’ Photographer – Terry Ruebush, was Pelorus yacht.
Pelorus was commissioned by a Saudi Arabian businessmen and was built in Bremen, Germany in the Lurssen ship yard in 2003 then sold in 2004 to Russian Billionaire Roman Abramovich. There is little known about the full details of the interior as Roman was highly secretive and protective of his family’s privacy, travelling with a large contingent of security as well as 46 crew members aboard.
Pelorus can comfortably hold up to 22 guests in 11 cabins – with master suite, 2 VIP staterooms and 8 double cabins.
Pelorus is not just a mild beauty, this girl packs a punch with 2 Wartsila 5,300 horsepower diesel engines; she comfortably cruises along at 17 knots, while able to reach maximum speeds of 20 knots. With fuel tanks of 280,000 she can cruise for around 6,000 nm (at an average speed of 16 knots).
Like most super yachts, Pelorus comes equipped with the latest toys – such as jet skis, tenders, and two helicopter pads – because there is nothing worse than needing to land your helicopter on your luxury yacht and having to wait in line… And all entertainment needs are taken care of with a swimming pool onboard, movie theatre, cocktail bar, dance floor, jacuzzi, sundecks…
Pelorus is apparently not available for charter. In 2009 Irina Abramovich received the yacht as part of her divorce settlement and on sold to American businessman David Lawrence Geffen in 2011 for a cool $300 million.
