Is it just the season, or has Ultra had an impact? Whatever the case, it has been a week for luxury yacht spotting along the Croatian Coast. The recent beauty, spotted by Split’s own ‘3 Gray Goats’ Photographer – Terry Ruebush, was Pelorus yacht.

Pelorus was commissioned by a Saudi Arabian businessmen and was built in Bremen, Germany in the Lurssen ship yard in 2003 then sold in 2004 to Russian Billionaire Roman Abramovich. This mega yacht is 114.5 metres long, making it the 11th largest yacht in the world.

Pelorus can comfortably hold up to 22 guests in 11 cabins – with master suite, 2 VIP staterooms and 8 double cabins. The interior design was taken on by Terence Disdale, who created a luxuriously-rustic (if that can go together) beach house atmosphere with the use of rich woods, distressed planking and soft-neutral tones. Pulling off casual-chic in a yacht of this magnitude is no simple feat, but somehow Disdale did it, which perhaps is another feature of Pelorus that sets her apart.

Pelorus is not just a mild beauty, this girl packs a punch with 2 Wartsila 5,300 horsepower diesel engines; she comfortably cruises along at 17 knots, while able to reach maximum speeds of 20 knots. With fuel tanks of 280,000 she can cruise for around 6,000 nm (at an average speed of 16 knots).

Like most super yachts, Pelorus comes equipped with the latest toys – such as jet skis, tenders, and two helicopter pads – because there is nothing worse than needing to land your helicopter on your luxury yacht and having to wait in line… And all entertainment needs are taken care of with a swimming pool on board, movie theatre, cocktail bar, dance floor, Jacuzzi, sundecks…

Pelorus is apparently not available for charter. In 2009 Irina Abramovich received the yacht as part of her divorce settlement and on sold to American businessman David Lawrence Geffen in 2011 for a cool $300 million. Since then it has passed through a few hands and is now owned by Chinese Billionaire Samuel Tak Lee who has been getting his use out of it this summer.

Update; August 1st 2017, Pelorus is still cruising the Adriatic and Lee’s son Jimmy Lee is said to have used it throw a party recently with David Guetta and MC Hammer performing. Ah, what a terrible life…
