Three Olympic Class Croatian Sailors Have Qualified for the Sailing World Cup Final!

Total Croatia Sailing is soon-to-launch and, as well as bringing you information about sailing in Croatia, we are excited to follow ‘Our Boys’ in the World and Olympic Trail of Competitive Sailing and they are off to a great start! On Sunday, 30th April 2017, the second qualifier for the Sailing World Cup concluded in Hyeres and three Croatian Olympic Class Sailors have made the cut!

The Second Series of the Sailing World Cup concluded in Hyeres on Sunday, Tonci Stipanović and Filip Jurisić, Laser class sailors of JK Mornar, and Josip Olujić, Finn class sailor of JK Labud have all earned their place to compete in the World Sailing Cup Final next month in Santander.

The two, Split-based, sailing clubs sit next door to one another and there is strong comradery between sailors of all ages and of all classes. Stipanović and Olujić, both from Split, and Jurisić, from Island Hvar, have sailed together since childhood. Total Croatia Sailing caught up with the three athletes to find out how they felt about the good news.

Stipanović, the first Croatian to win an Olympic medal in sailing, said “It will be great to go to Santander again, it’s a really nice place for sailing and the city is great too. I hope that my sailing will be at a better level than it has been so far in this season and that I get to stand on the podium.”

Jurisić, who came 5th out of 59 in the SWC Series 1 Miami, said “We are just returning from France and this time we cannot boast great results. However, the most important thing is that Tonči and I in Laser class and Olujić sailing Finn have all qualified for the World Cup Finals”

Olujić, who is the only Croatian Finn class sailor to qualify, said “It’s been a great week here in Hyeres. I’m still in France and will be competing in the Finn European Championship in Marseille next week. But, I am super pleased to qualify and am looking forward to the World Cup Final in Santander next month.”
